Vehicle Registration Check by Number Plate: VAHAN Guide

How to use the official VAHAN portal to check whether a registration is active or expired, and what the number-plate result does and does not show.

Important: This page is a step-by-step informational guide only. VehicleRegDetail.com does not operate a vehicle search or lookup database, and we do not collect, store or disclose owner names, phone numbers, addresses or any personal vehicle data. For real verification, RC download, challan payment or licence status checks, please visit the official Parivahan / VAHAN government portal directly.

A registration check answers one question: is this vehicle currently registered and valid? The official VAHAN National Register is the source for that check. This page covers the number-plate lookup and the meaning of the result; the RC application tracking guide covers the separate application stages.

What the Number-Plate Check Shows

  • Registration number, date and current validity
  • Vehicle make, model, fuel type and class
  • RTO and state details
  • Insurance and PUC status where available
  • Hypothecation or fitness entries where applicable

How to Check Registration on VAHAN

  1. Open vahan.parivahan.gov.in/nrservices.
  2. Choose "Know Your Vehicle Details".
  3. Enter the registration number without spaces.
  4. Complete the captcha and submit the search.
  5. Read the registration validity and RTO details on the official page.

Active vs Expired

An active record means the registration is within its validity period. An expired record may require renewal, a fitness certificate or another RTO process. The portal shows the official status; this site does not infer or guarantee it.

When the Result Is Not Enough

The number-plate result is a summary, not a legal certificate. For a used-car purchase, combine it with the seller and RC matching checklist. For a registration application or renewal, use the RC status guide.

What This Site Does Not Do

VehicleRegDetail.com explains the official lookup. We do not operate a number-plate search, collect registration numbers, or provide owner contact details.
