VehicleRegDetail.com does not operate a vehicle search or lookup database, and we do not collect, store or disclose owner names, phone numbers, addresses or any personal vehicle data. When you buy a used car in India, the name on the registration certificate matters. A seller who is not the registered owner, an unreleased loan, or a missing NOC can turn a simple purchase into a long RTO problem. This checklist focuses on the buyer's side of the transaction.
Ask for the original RC and compare the registered owner name with the seller's identity documents. If the seller is acting for the owner, ask for a written authorisation. A mismatch is a reason to pause, not a detail to ignore.
Look for a hypothecation entry in the RC or the VAHAN record. If the car is financed, the lender must release the loan and issue the documents needed for transfer. A no-objection certificate (NOC) may also be required when the vehicle is moving to another state or when the registered owner is not the seller.
Confirm that insurance and PUC are valid and that the policy details match the vehicle. An expired policy or a missing PUC is a cost you will inherit after the purchase. Check the official insurer or Parivahan service rather than relying on a photo of a document.
Keep copies of the RC, insurance, PUC, seller identity, NOC where applicable, and the transfer forms. The full used-car checklist covers the purchase sequence, and the official method comparison explains how to read the VAHAN record yourself.
